I don't know why Gabe ran so poorly, the rabbit went out in 57 but the rest of the field went by in 58-60. The wind was pretty bad with gusts between 15 and 20 mph -- probably took 4-5 seconds away from the competitors -- but that wouldn't compensate for a 4:15.
Pure speculation -- either he backed off at some point when he knew he wasn't going to be a factor in the race and/or he'd just gone through a really tough training week.
