  • Sprinters untucked?

That's twice now I've seen Asafa running with the spandex bottoms, but wearing a normal singlet untucked. I trust he won't do that when the stakes are higher?

Maybe some of the math guys can tell us how crucial this could be. Too bad one of 'em's on sabbatical. (sad face due to malfunctioning emoticons)

Emoticons exerimentaly disabled, not malfunctioning. There wsa a post with a lot ofnumbers the other day and all the 8) references got turned into smilies, which sucked. I'm thnking the disabling may stay permanent. Makes the site look a bit less like a junior high playground.

Yes, but they can be used to communicate in more sublte ways. For example, I could have said:

"Sorry, gh, but you're way off topic bub. Can we talk some track if you don't mind?" (and right here I would insert the "razz" face to let you know I'm just giving you a hard time, but mean no disrespect or hard feelings).

But alas, it gives me an idea for another thread. Do not fear. I shall be moving on to Things Not T&F. (bright positive smiley)

As we have all seen before, discerning 'tone' on the internet can be very problematic. We have actually had some contentious misperceptions here due to some nuanced irony. I realize that your motto is not exactly "the customer is always right" (insert appropriate smilie, or razzie, etc. here), but I think we would be best served by keeping the emoticons as an option. Yes, they look a little (OK, a LOT, sometimes) silly, but they actually IMPROVE the 'communication' around here, and that IS of importance.

edit - and as you can see, you'd have to turn off a lot more than 'smilies' to get rid of them.

Garry and Ben, you can change what you have to type to produce emoticons in order to prevent conflict with stats and results.

Nice work around tafnut! That is the sign of worse to come?

Becca makes a good point that the emoticons that are incompatible with results could be reassigned to a different keystroke. At least, I think that is her point.
