    Pre press release:

<<Fresh off a legendary World Athletics Championships gold medal triple (100-meter, 200-meter, and 4x100-meter relay), Noah Lyles looks to add another Wanda Diamond League Champion trophy to his case. Already a four-time Diamond League Champion in the 200m (2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022), Lyles is seeking his first title in the 100-meter from the event. The Olympic medalist’s wind-legal personal best of 9.83s was set just this season and currently has him ranked first globally in the event.>>

I guess Prefontaine didn't have someone read this through and fact check. Lyles won the 100m Diamond League title in 2019

Or at least on his behalf . . .

If they only take 6 for field events the men's pole vault didn't seamlessly cooperate. There is a four-way tie for 6th at 10 points

In case of a tie, the athlete with the best legal performance of the season is ranked higher.

How is Lyles running the 100m when he isn't in the Top 8 qualifiers?

                World champions get a bye?

The larger question is how great is a ranking system that has Fred Kerley as # 1?!

It's not about rankings. It's about qualifying by points scored in DL meets...

If someone in the top 8 drops out then the host gets to invite who ever they want.

It IS the DL rankings. And it's obviously flawed.

The DL final determined by points in the DL meets.....what a wild concept.

How is it flawed in this instance? The preceding meets are the means to qualify. Athletes know that. Lyles could have ran ANY 100m he wanted along the way and he chose not to.

I acknowledge there are flaws for many athletes in getting access to the preceding meets, but that is simply not the case for drawcards.

Because it's qualification for the 2023 DL Final, not 2022.
