Any chance Tom Jordan will extend an invitation? My guess is the odds are pretty good.

*Zat slinks off in shame, humilated he had committed the sin of not reading the front page and being unaware of such a stellar performance.*

Allow me to throw in shameless plug at this point: our Headlines section is getting--we humbly think--to be a pretty good place to stay hip to a lot of things. You don't have to take the time to read all of the postings (there are a couple of dozen every day), but even just a scan of the headlines themselves is a pretty good way to graze across the top of the landscape.

Re dj's comment, yeah, Acosta has his section meet on Sat, 27 May. He will probably double, and the 32 will probably be late. A plane connection is probalby possible, but I'm not sure how much traffic San Diego-Eugene there is, so problimatic. Also, CA state is the next Fri/Sat, so in all, I doubt he will be there.

Was Stember (4.09,00) the last CA prep to compete in the Pre Mile (96.05.26)? He ran 4.13,42 at Sac-Joaquin Section Champs on 96.05.23 - three days rest before Pre, and one week before CA State Meet qualifying/finals.
Acosta doesn:t need to win Sections, just qualify through to State final. However, a 1.600m and 3.200m, plus a plane flight can be taxing on what he may attempt to accomplish within 24 hours of each other. There was a story a couple years back about some high school girl attempting to compete at both indoor high school nationals on the same weekend and had some insane distance to travel between both. Don:t recall how she did, but this can be done.

Well, maybe insane is a strong word here, but it doesn't really make a lot of sense for a young runner to try a double like that and I suspect he's not going to do it.

High school runners are rarely in charge of such decisions. Can't imagine his coach saying it was OK, and looking at the next step in the equation, I suspect that his college-coach-to-be, one Mr. Lannana would strongly discourage such a regimen. Not only for hard-racing reasons, but also so as not to set up a prize recruit with too much in the way of Hayward Field expectations. He's already had his small taste of glory there.
