    (usatf release)

<<"I want to congratulate Justin on obtaining the record and I welcome him into the exclusive club of being World Champion, Olympic gold

medalist and now world record holder.">>

that's a pretty elite club (not that anybody before '83 had a chance to join)

    that makes 4 :

    King
    bailey
    mo
    gatlin

( although christie's 9.87 shouda been the wr, as it was obviously superior to King's 9.86 on the later declared illegal tokyo track )

shoud morally be 5 ( although it still amazes me how christie ran 9.87 - he just never looked that good )

Like it or not, Ben Johnson is the fifth.

better you find an alternate quantum universe to make a case for him

impossible to see how you're going to make a case for an intrinsic 10.1+ guy doing it in the real universe...

          Well, no.

The alternate quantum universe you're referring to is the one in which he didn't cross the line first.

          Sad but true.

            yes...

i'm sure after a few decades you'll eventually find someone above 3y of age in this universe to amuse...

While I'm on this subject, I'd also prefer not to be insulted by the IAAF trying to tell me that Montgomery didn't run 9.85 in Edmonton. Airbrushing results is unbecoming.

Eldrick: you're talking to a quantum field theorist here. No need to invoke Everett. It was in this reality that Ben Johnson crossed the line in 9.79, set the WR, won the Olympic Gold, and was the reigning World Champion. In this age of Balco, I'm rather surprised that you so quickly toss Ben in the garbage because he "cheated" -- and no one else in the race did? Remember, over 50% of those Seoul finalists were subsequently caught. The rest were either clean, or got away. You decide. *THAT* is where the multiple worlds hypothesis comes into play.
jrm, all i can say is that i saw the "cheat" from '83 onwards - he was a nobody & was never likely to amount to anything - he was just a 60m guy who didn't have any strength for the last 40m & subsequently got run over by the big boyz in the last 40m - 10.1 basic is all he ever looked like he was going to run in his career

now as our esteemed physicist, you coud explore in which of the infinite universes, a no-chance 10.1 guy can achive the triple crown in the modern era - i woud have expected your conclusion to read something along the lines of
" my calculations show me that even in an infinite number of alternative universes, i still can't find one where the scenario of a 10.1 bum in the modern era wins og, wc & sets the wr, occurs ! "

as for balco - do you see me talkin about/supporting monty or kelli ? do you see anyone here continuously posting about monty's 9.84 in oslo ? his 9.84 chasin mo in wc ? his 9.78 wr ?
do you see anyone repeatedly posting that kelli was the big favorite for the 100/200 double in athens ? that she was the new superstar of women's sprinting ?

so why woud anyone here be interested in talkin about the biggest cheat of them all, who ruined the seoul olympics for the fans ( certainly did for me ) ???

as for seoul final - King had ephedrine +ve , from inadvertant cold medication not even in seoul - it was from a prior meet

christie had +ve for ephedrine from a herbal remedy in seoul

don't sully their names by putting them in the same category as chronic, steroid abuser

Although Gaitlin has previously won the WIC over 60m (2003), Mo Greene is the only one to have the 60m & 100m WR and WC at the same time... He then went on to win the Olympics, to be the 100m WR, WC and Oly Champ, and also held the 60m WR - but was he still the WIC?

If he was - he had 60m - WR and WIC + 100m WR, WC and OLY

If not - he had 60m WR + 100m WR, WC and Oly...

                        Will this ever be replicated?

Yeah, but how many of these other clowns ever lived in a $3-million home in Southern California! Now that's an exclusive club, baby.

Generally speaking, not as exclusive as you might think.
