He is slated to run tonight in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It will be interesting to see how he responds.
If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

Richard Chelimo only held the 10K record for 5 days before Yobes Ondeiki broke it. That's not your question, and it has nothing to do with the thread. But it does prove that I at least know something about track.

        So there!

The first 10.1 (Willie Williams) camein the heats of hte CISM meet in Berlin in '56. The next day Ira Murchison ran 10.1 in the semis, and then the next day Williams ran 10.1 in the final.

Bad Hammy answered one question that came to mind: Has the record ever been broken twice in the same meet?

But to revise it, has the SAME athlete ever broken the record twice in the same meet?

9.95 Jim Hines USA Mexico City Oct 14, 1968
                  Also, less than a day:
10.0 Roger Bambuck FRA Sacramento Jun 20, 1968
9.9 Jim Hines USA Sacramento Jun 20, 1968
9.9 Charlie Greene USA Sacramento Jun 20, 1968
                  9.9 Ronnie-Ray Smith USA Sacramento Jun 20, 1968

Don't know for a fact, but assuming heat for Bambuck, finals for the others.

Note that at the 68 Sacramento meet, the answers above are technically incorrect, because the 10.0s of Greene and Bambuck tied the existing record, but did not break it.

Not true of the Mexico City meet, although the 10.02 of Greene was never ratified. Hines' 9.95 is the first officially ratified electronic time

You gotta love this quote from Powell:

"Tell Justin (Gatlin) congratulations (but) the record is only on loan,"

Things are really going to heat up out there. It's obvious that Justin can go faster. Just imagine if he had gotten out with Fasuba and accelerated similarly. Also, Powell's 9.95 was into a -0.6m/s headwind.
