  • problem with track & field

I have been a track fan as far back as I can remember. Love the sport...but!

I don't really care about the women, or the weight events, or anything over a mile. Not a pole vault, triple jump or high jump fan. I go to the meets to watch the..

    relays
    100
    200
    400
    800
    mile
    hurdles
    long jump

So I sit through a lot of stuff that just doesn't interest me. I think most of us are like that when it comes to track, which is the only sport where the women compete, then the men, then the women, then the men then......

    I love women..ok? I just can't get excited ver 10.90 100's.

You don:t get to very many track meets if you are there to watch the mile.

How does posting the all-time top 32 performances in the mile in any way serve as a response to EPelle's comment?

Not sure why he made a comment at all. So I thought I'd do the same. No big deal!

I can get excited over an 11.90, if it's a HS freshman girl. You need to learn how to enjoy ALL the events by scaling the results/competition to the expectations. Everything is relative. Wariner's 20.19 was VERY exciting, but he lost, and sub-20 is where it's at in the m200. I'd rather see a 21.90 by a woman right now than a 19.90 by a man. There's much more to T&F than the men's events you listed and your enjoyment of (elite) T&F would be much richer if you 'got' it, but . . . to each his own.

P.S. The two 290+ throws in the JT so far this year are also VERY exciting. Demus is HOT in the w400H, there's already several US women over 60 in the SP, etc., etc.

              Oh cool. Can I play? Uh . . . hmm . . . ooh, ooh, okay, I got one!

So, uh, you don't get to many track meets if you're only there for the 800.

I think you misunderstood me. Which was my fault. I'm definately into high school/NCAA track. The Texas/Cal State High School meets are as exciting as anything the big boys can pull off. I was referring to world class meets with my 10.90 remark. If I could see one race on antique video it would be the Leamon King vs James Jackson 1955 100 at the 55 Cal Championships.

I don't care about the throws, or long distances under any circumstances however. Just me!

If you go to track meets to watch the mile, you must either:
                    1. Attend very few of them[/*:m:2v2i66tw]
                    2. Only attend high school dual meets held on dirt tracks[/*:m:2v2i66tw]
                    3. Are living in the past.[/*:m:2v2i66tw]
Your choice. Most people in your shoes go to watch the 1.500m.

You got to be kidding me. Are you really that hung up on ..."I have to point out it's no longer the mile"....who really cares? You didn't understand what I was talking about? Sure ya did!

                      Come on man, that's tiny!

That's like going to the record store. Not a "record" there, just tapes and CD's.
