  • Marion Jones to run at Reebok Grand Prix

Can anyone confirm this. I just read on another board that she just got confirmed for Saturday and it appears she will be added to the womens 100m.

If that is true, it should be a scorcher since the womens 100m also features Veronica Campbell.

Do expect a sub 11 from both athletes.

The womens 100m startlist was confirmed on tthe website the past two weeks. Now, its the only event where it currently listed as "field to be announced"

I am sure by Friday they will update it.

I also heard they were in serious negotations for Marion to run in New York. Maybe they were able to finalize the deal. If true, it is a very interesting development.

Marion Jones set to run 100m Saturday in New York

Marion Jones set to run 100m Saturday in New York

        By Dick Patrick, USA TODAY
        June 2, 2006

Marion Jones, on the comeback trail with a ripped body and improved times from last year, is scheduled to be a late entrant in the 100 meters Saturday at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York City.
Jones, the 2000 Olympic champion in the 100, joins a field expected to include current Olympic champ Veronica Campbell of Jamaica and current world champ Lauryn Williams of the USA.

Campbell has the year's best time (10.99); Jones, 30, the fourth (11.06). Williams, slowed by respiratory illness, has a best of 11.18.

The meet will help The Big Apple turn into BALCO East for the weekend. Jones and San Francisco Giants star Barry Bonds, whose team is playing the Mets, have been connected to the steroid scandal. Both deny using performance-enhancing drugs.

Jones' race, at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island, will be her toughest test of the year. She opened in Mexico, winning in 11.06, and last week won in the Netherlands in 11.16.

It's probably a rumour flying around. They mentioned it on Eurosport but it's a bit of a random place to run.

I do expect a sub 10 from Veronica even though the weather isn't expected to be great.

I read an article today which said that Lauryn is slightly injured but will run.

Why is it crazy to expect a sub-10 from Veronica.

Either we have a misconception of what sub-10 means, an attempt at humor, or you expect Veronica to shatter Flo Jo's world record by half a second, which I guess would extinguish the desire by some to place an asterisk by Flo Jo's. However, a 9.99 by Veronica might require something, perhaps a Hurricane Katrina aided mark.
