...people with diabilities but it looks like we have an epidemic of narcolepsy. Anyone out there starting to connect the dots yet?

"The newspaper also said that American Chris Phillips, who finished fifth in the world 110 metres hurdles final, had tested positive for Modafinil, a light stimulant."

Hmm... Very odd indeed! What are the odds that two sprinters from the same country are suffering from this rare illness which afflicts only 1 in a 1000 (about 200,000 Americans, most of whom are apparently sprinters...).

Is it possible that this is the masker of choice now?

That is the question Bailey squirmed about when he was asked it on TV. "Possibly" was his answer with a knowing smile on his face. No fair minded person can possibly think that there isn't something going on. Flash back to 88. Suppose there would have been a drip drip drip series of announcements for various and sundry sprinters being caught with mild stimulants in their system.
It all looks so antiseptic now but I honestly wonder what the reaction would have been if there would have been an announcement every couple of weeks about another sprinter. I am not trying to turn this into an attack CL but I do honestly wonder. I realize that is an argument to wait and see what these sprinters have to say and maybe they will end up in the same boat as Carl. No problems.

From being a world class sprinter and knowing what's going on behind the scenes?

Ok Skeptical, are you going with a narcolepsy outbreak instead?

Claiming narcolepsy will sound too fishy. I'll bet there'll either be some creative new excuse, or it'll just be the basic "I didn't do it, not my sample, the testers screwed up, someone spiked my provigil, Ben is worse than Hitler, you can't prove nuthin'!", blah blah blah...

I guess now we know why the IAAF didn't accept
White's reasons. They would have known about Phillips at the time they made their decision.

Absolutely not, it's clear that--as has happened so many times before--Modafinil is the drug du jour; thought to be (whether it is or not) performance enhancing while not being on the banned list. Oops--fooled them!

My only issue is when somebody (like Donovan B) is interviewed and his characterized as having a "knowing smile on his face." He has zero credentials in these matters, assigning him some kind of guru status is silly.

Do you think that White will continue with the narcolepsy defence? She now looks so stupid that she should just take her lumps and tell the USADA
to go along with the penalty. Even better-do a Dubin.

Since I suspect virtually any world class sprinter, Bailey's knowing smile is probably from knowing something.
