And you got it from today's Chron. I guess Tom FiztGerald reads every paper in the country. He always is dredging up good stuff.

Why is he doing this BTW? He doesn't have a chance to even compete. Is he broke?

I think he said he's doing it because he wants to inspire others to break barriers, etc. I'm hoping he at least comes close so that he doesn't demoralize people instead.

              gh must read him:

"Hurdler Edwin Moses, 48, has announced he will try to qualify for the Olympic Trials. "I don't wanna say Moses is old,'' says Greg Cote of the Miami Herald, "but, in his first Olympiad, he ran naked.''"

Yeah but, technically, her name would likely be White-Snow if convention is maintained which takes a bit of the sting out of the joke. Some good stuff in there though.

Fitzgerald had two more track-related items today:

<<Moon over Frankfurt: German pole-vaulter Tim Lobinger faces a possible $5, 000 fine from the IAAF for dropping his pants in front of the crowd -- which included members of Monaco's royal family -- during a victory lap at the World Athletics Final in Frankfurt on Saturday. He said he was protesting new rules reducing the time between jumps. "Both sides, we assume, can probably agree on one point,'' says Dwight Perry of the Seattle Times. "He's getting a bum rap."

From Christopher Lierle of Mill Valley: "The drawback of letting a man that old compete: 'In lane number 5, wearing the white undershirt, plaid shorts, dark socks and sandals - Edwiiiiiiiiiin Mooooooooses!' ">>

You could make a joke about him being as old as Moses . . .
