MVP voting when the season is barely 40% old? Isn't this just a tad premature?

No. They (ESPN) are primarily basing this on 2005, but have included some 2006 marks. Click on the link above, and explore what they have included in the athlete info. Big Mac, the ESPY nominees are already selected and on the ESPN site above.

The ESPY's are nothing more than a popularity contest. For best male college athlete, you have to chose between 3 football players and 2 basketball players. There are 20 different NCAA sports and we are supposed to believe that none of the athletes in any of the other 18 sports were worthy of consideration. Of the five nominees, the only one who had a regular season comparable X-man's regular season was Reggie Bush. And the only who had a post season comparable to X-man's post-season was Vince Young, yet X-man isn't even mentioned. And it has nothing to do with the timing of the college track season because Ginnie Powell is one of the female nominees as she should be. I put more stock in the Sullivan Award since track and field athletes have as much of a chance of winning it as football players.

True, the awards are pretty bogus, but in this group Gatlin wins, easy.

No, it's an orgy of self-congratulation and self-promotion, just like every other awards show on the planet. If it's on ESPN they're going to get it into the show. I mean, can you come up with any other reason to have a "best bowler" category?

Yup, I know the nominees are final, but anyway. Just like all the people are from the same country...

ESPN named the 10 ten sports teams in the world, like 8 of the 10 where from USA and they even left out the All Blacks, surely the most dominant rugby team around with like 1 loss in 24 games should have been there?

Oh, I'm sure if they had not lost that one game they would have won an ESPY!
