  • blood testing?

    did y'all see this?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/22/sport ... track.html

(go to bugmenot.com for registration help)

i didn't realize they had to submit to blood testing on a regular basis. ouch! i thought it was mostly urine testing. i would not want needles on me all the time, i don't think i could live like that.

Interesting. They are taking blood, ostensibly to test for HGH, but then mostly not testing it because of the cost.

“The World Anti-Doping Agency did the first blood testing for growth hormone at the 2004 Olympics. Although the test is seldom administered because it requires scarce antibodies, any blood test could be screened for the hormone. Olympic officials say they hope that the deterrent effect offsets the rarity of the actual test.

Officials at the United States Anti-Doping Agency, which administers testing of American athletes, would not say how often the test had been used. The World Anti-Doping Agency estimated it had done only a few hundred. Neither agency has sanctioned an athlete based on the test.”

And personally, I’d much prefer a blood test to the degrading practice that is today’s urine test.

I'm done with my pee, but I'm still using my blood. Take the pee.

You might feel a bit differently if a stranger knocked on your door out of the blue and told you you had to make a clear view of your entire genitalia and keep both hands in sight during the whole process.

                GH:

If I had my druthers, and I would definitely do the blood routine.

Testing at the college level came about to our campus (Cincinnati) in the mid '80's. I was tested once during the last 2 years I was competing, and I can tell you (I'm sure this is not news to you) that it is a degrading process. Even though I coach D3 college track now, I don't think I would personally do it all over again given where things have ended up. As it is now, I'm not far from being out of the sport other than as a recreational master's competitor.

WADA seems to imply that they are on the cutting edge in drug testing.
                  no way.... and
i do not trust these people, IOC, UN, or any similar organization (no real accountability), gods upon themselves. i say a googleplex of profanity to those guys and gals.

therefore, i WANA second opinion to be sure.

why hgh testing was introduced as late as 2004 is a mystery.
why there is a delay in putting together a test kit is a mystery.
why no one has ever tested positive is a mystery.
i mean, you know hgh being such fun stuff...and without a test in place.
it is like having a house full of mice/rats and they eat cheese every day.
then you put in some traps, and catch no mice what so ever.
the conclusion is there is something wrong with the trap.

there seems to be every indication that that an individual test could be brougt down to $10 a pop. and of course athletes can do the test themselves and back out of competitions if positive.... around in circles we go...

Monoclonal antibody enhancement of the effects of human growth hormone on growth and body composition in mice. Next ...a test for the monoclonal antibody?

I'll take the "cup" over the needle any day. Needles are a bit too invasive and slightly painful. Then again, my view is based on years of military drug tests where I've had to deliver those samples in front of numerous strangers. We were also periodically tasked to act as observers as well. That was more uncomfortable than being observed. -- because I really felt bad for the few guys that struggled while being observed. Something that did help (if anything could) was when they installed crotch level mirrors behind the toilets in the sample rooms. They allow an observer to get a full view without directly facing the individual or having to look in from the side. You simply stand out of their view and look in the mirror...its like you're not even in the room :-)
