- Dr. Randy Wilber, senior sport physiologist at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, will present a lecture entitled "Application of Sport Science in the Development and Performance of Olympic Athletes" at 5:30 p.m. today at the Given Institute.
Wilber will discuss the physical, physiological and psychological characteristics of an Olympic athlete, training (physical and mental), sport science support and how to create a model of success. As an example, Wilber will describe the success of Team USA's two marathon medalists, Deena Kastor and Meb Keflizighi at the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics. Wilber will also talk about over training, discussing causes, recognition and prevention.
