Rumors have been circulating the westcoast track circles about UCLA 1500 meter star Lena Nilsson not coming back to UCLA for her senior season. A good friend of mine said that there was an article in their school newspaper. If this happens it would be a big blow to the UCLA distance program. Lena was the Bruins #1 cross country runner and #2 in the nation at 1500 meters. I hope this isnt true. Does anyone else have info?

Re: Lena Nilsson Out At UCLA
15:28.0 for guaranteed entry, 15:51.50 is the "provisional" mark to fill the field.
USATF has done a good job of making these difficult to find. Need to go to usatf.org then click on "elite athletes" and continue to navigate from there.

Re: Lena Nilsson Out At UCLA
Not that the 5000 qual times really have anything to do with Nilsson at UCLA does it?
But, I do have to disagree with Gary on the issue of finding the qualifying standards.
It really didn't seem that hard or that big a deal to track them down on USATF's site.

Re: Lena Nilsson Out At UCLA
Next year is an Olympic year so i don't blame her for not wanting to go through the rigors of cross country, indoor track, and NCAA outdoor track, and then try to qualify for the Swedish Olympic Team. She needs to put all of her energy into the preparation of getting in great shape for next summer. The rigors of NCAA running are too risky for a middle distance runner who will be asked to race about 16 times for UCLA during that time span. I say "Good luck Lena", I hope we see you in Athens.
