Interestingly, Italy's reigning World Junior Champion (Andrew Howe) has at least temporarily abandoned the event in favor of the long jump.

Agreed . It is just funny to see so many gifted young sprinters who seem to peak so early and then stagnate or regress. I think in most cases athletes tend to peak in later years after a somewhat slow but steady improvement.
I guess there is hope for all slow people and young fast people shouldnt get to cocky.
