The best source of information for the collegian runners, CC & Track, is: Trackshark.com. If you don't find it there, it doesn't exist!

Here's part of Mike Scott's excellent analysis of the women's poll. He lists who's racing where:

Next Weekend:  The September 26-27 weekend marks the kick-off of the serious cross country season.

Great American (9/26) -- Brigham Young, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Florida State, Grand Valley State, Liberty, North Carolina State, Northern Arizona, Texas A & M, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Carolina - Charlotte, Virginia, US Military Academy, William and Mary

Roy Griak (9/27) -- Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Boston College, Colorado State, Columbia, Indiana, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Northwestern, Penn State, Providence, Southern Utah, Texas Tech, Toledo, Utah State, Wake Forest, Wartburg (IA), Washington State, Weber State

    Stanford (9/27) -- 4K & 6K races: Arkansas, Cal-Santa Barbara, Stanford, UCLA, Wisconsin

Iona Meet of Champions (9/27) -- Auburn, Boston U, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Rhode Island, Yale

Sorry, but I'm afraid I burned up all my "free" time (and more) on this simple project. Now I've really gotta work.

Sorry, the first number, in front of each team, is their current ranking. The letters are their region, and the final number was their ranking in the previous poll.

I'm sorry to be ignorant and stupid, but what do the figures and letters mean?

Oops! Broe didn't win the Stanford Invite in '99. I remember him leading most of the way, but it was Arizona's Micheil Jones (who was training half-heartedly with the Farm Team a few years ago, but has now given up the ghost) who ended up winning.

Can't blame collegiate teams for going to Great American. Great chance to run in front of a lot of top high school kids.

Stanford is a great HS meet too, but mostly California, with a few Oregon and Nevada schools.

I'd say the bigger reason why top teams down come out to the Farm anymore (unfortunately, it's an amazingly beautiful place to race) is the need for opportunities to beat other top teams head to head for at-large qualifying points.

Going head to head with Griak (aka the other Pre-Nats) doesn't help. Cal Poly SLO was lucky in '99 when Alabama came out (when Tim Broe won, the year before Kimani transferred), because The Tide were an auto-qualifier that year, which helped the Mustangs make nasties at Indiana.

At least the Great American meet is taking away some of the teams from Griak and spreading out the talent a bit.

I guess teams don't wanna come out and get beat up on by Stanford so early in the season.

Hey, Arkansas's and Wisconsin's women still come out. In recent years so have BYU.

No, you're not having acid flashbacks. The Cats used to come to the Invite. Back in the 80's all kinds of teams used to come out (even when the race was a 10K and ran the brutal big hill twice).

I remember watching Clemson, NC State, Arkansas (yes!) and other top teams. Bummer that they don't come out anymore.

Man, the Stanford Invite has really dropped off in the past half dozen years. The top Pac-10 teams don't even come even more. I think UCLA and Cal are coming, but what about Arizona? I used to love watching Giusto, Keino, Marc Davis and others race there. Or am I confusing the Invite with Pac 10s?
