After the conversation with Isinbaeva I was connected with Vitaly Petrov, who related some curious details about the world record-holder’s appearance in London.

    - “It turned out so that it was necessary for Lena to begin the competition practically without any warming-up,” said Petrov. “She almost missed the start!”

    - What happened?

    - The timetable of the shuttle-bus that ran between the hotel and the stadium in the tea-time hour didn’t suit us. The organizers agreed with our position and granted an automobile to Isinbaeva. However, judging by everything, the girl who was driving wasn’t very familiar with London, which moreover is famous for its traffic jams. Altogether, instead of 20 minutes we reached the arena an hour later! But even here our driver turned out not to have a parking pass for the stadium lot, so it was necessary for us to go one-and-a-half kilometers on foot. So therefore numerous nerve cells were used up even before Isinbaeva reached the pole vault sector.

    - Do you figure that this influenced her performance?

    - It didn’t contribute to high flights in any case. Lena has a very strong psyche; but unnecessarily stressful situations are not entirely nothing.

Maybe next year Mumps, Flumps and Eldy can be responsible for getting Isi from the hotel to the stadium. It probably won't do her jumps any good, but her nerves ought to be pretty well mellowed out after a pub crawl. :-)

what a great idea but me and flump missed the start as well and we weren't even drunk then. we also managed to miss the last train back to central london. but i blame a free bar and Kelly Holmes for that !!!!
