    SWAT is right
    P. Diddy has done some really dumb things (we all do ...to a varying degree!) in the past but this will not be one of them...maybe I'll be running with him..

Props to P. Diddy. He's putting his money (and feet!) where his mouth his. Great example for the kids who worship him.

        >I feel sorry for his fans
        >who'll be waiting on the course to see him around
        >mile 23. Doubt he'll make it that far.

Care to revise and extend your remarks dl? There are some that have posted on some threads here that would consider a 4:14:54 on such limited training an athletic accomplishment.

Anyone who has tried a marathon with less than full preparation (8 weeks does NOT constitute adequate preparation) will understand that his 4:14 is a good result. Yes, he has done some 'stupid' things in the past, but this achievement in a charitable endeavor makes me a fan.

Imagine if he really trained then. He could be the future of US distance running. Don't get me wrong. You have to hand to my man Puffy. The fact that he is 33 years old proves that 6 minute miles and finishing marathons are really not that big of a deal if you have managed to keep yourself in reasonable shape.

"Despite a bum right knee and just eight weeks of training, rap mogul Sean Combs finished Sunday's New York City Marathon in just under four hours."

All the haters need to step. I wonder if his coach emphasised strength training, given his limited schedule. Hats off to Diddy for a 4:14.

I ran New York years ago, and the New York course is no piece of cake (bridges, hills).

The 4:14 included the 16 minutes it took him to cross the STARTING line, so he DID run sub-4!! This impresses few 'real' runners, but it impressed us joggers and non-runners a lot!

Well tafnut, me, Two Pac and Biggie were just sitting around smoking a blunt and talking about how we sure couldn't do it-especially given our current state. In all seriousness though, who knows what his real chip time was. They had some issues with the system. They have sorted out some of the issues but not all of them. Look at this one for example:

                      41 35 14 Sarel Ackermann (32) RSA 2:28:26 2:21:14 31:57 1:09:04 1:48:38 5:23

I don't think it took a 2:28 guy 7 miuntes to cross the start line.

                        >as for celebrities running marathons, i had heard
                        >president george bush ran a marathon in a little
                        >over 3 hours, and then vice president al gore
                        >finished the marine corps marathon. does anyone
                        >know if this is true.

                        Times in the marathon:
                        Gore-4 hours, 58 minutes, in 1997
                        Bush-3 hours, 44 minutes, in 1993

Didn't Bush get someone in the Texas Air National Guard to run the race for him?
