maurice greene at the 2001 world championships ran 9.88 in his quarterfinal not only did he run the fastest time in quarterfinal in history but he ran 9.88 into a 5m/s headwind which means to say that if there had been no wind a statician worked out that the time would have been 9.58 which would have demolished the world record also in the 100m final maurice greene exploded out of the blocks ahead of tim montgomery who was on course for to run 9.85 which he did but if you look at the video you will see just how fast maurice greene was running because he was quite ahead of montgomery who was running at 9.85 pace which means to say before maurice got injured he was running at 9.70-9.75 pace but got injured and slowed to 9.82

Re: maurice greene at 01 world champs
A statistician didn't work it out, it was a physicist -- and the physicist recognized that the wind gauge was clearly malfunctioning, because no one can run 9.88 into a 5m/s headwind.
Also, there is no statistical or scientific basis for saying that Greene was on a 9.70 pace before he became injured. He did not lose as much time as the urban legend suggests.
Please stop inventing numbers, or saying "a statistician told me" (because I probably know the statisticians who would have said that).

Re: maurice greene at 01 world champs
I agree that Greene would have set a world record in this race. His start probably was the best of his career. His dive phrase was so good that he was able to win the race. I think he would have ran 9.72. Greene has not been the same since this race.............

Re: maurice greene at 01 world champs
I agree with Track Stunna. Would have decimated 9.79. It looks to me that he started wincing a good way out and his last few strides were way short. Drive phase was a thing of beauty. He had the strategy down to a T. Pity his body wasn't completely up to the task.why don't people pronounce vowels anymore
