  • Kanter's 240+ throw and discus physics

    NEWS FLASH???

I read (unofficial) that Estonia's Gerd Kanter threw the discus 73.38m (240-09) in Helsingborg today.

    . . . his series:
    (69.46m, 72.30m, 70.43m, 73.38m, 70.51m, 65.88m)

Can anyone find the meet results to confirm this?

How could that series result in more than 3 PR's?

        Good point Mr. Sequential

... to avoid correction it would read "5 throwers better than his previous pr"

                That's crazy!

Helsingborg is the new La jolla! This if true....not mentioned anywhere....betters the "stadium" record with about 4 meters (Timo Tompuri's PB some years ago, actually witnessed that).

I'd say get Kanter, Alelkna and Tammert over there on a windy day like today(extremely windy in my hometown today, 200km away) and we'll have ourselves a new WR!

I think Tompuri beat his PB by an even greater margin than Kanter on that occasion.

Tilastopaja has now included Kanter's throw in its world lists as well.

10-12m/s according to the link pela provided. That's 22-27mph.

We need some DT comps in Haiti, where all the hurricanes hit with full force. Can you imagine a throw with a 100mph+ wind? 80m? 90m? 100m?

So why don't they have discus competitions in Wyoming? It is winder than any bicycle rider that I know prefers, and on a very regular basis. (not 3 hurricanes a year, where too much of a good thing is NOT wonderful, even for the discus).

Helsingbourg is one of the greatest winds available. I was there in 1998 and was amazed at the wind. It is much better than what I have seen the US. As an historical aside, I believe Powell had a PR 72.??m throw disallowed there for a sloping field. He still signs his autograph with that throw as his PR rather than his "official" PR. Ricky Bruch used to hold multiple competitions there on the same day when the wind was good. It became so rampant that the officials there will not allow more than one competition per one day (no matter how hard we begged).

Congratulations to Gerd on a great throw and a fantastic series.
