  • Alan Webb's Thread -- New

It does seem a little strange that there is no news from Nike or anyone else about Webb's condition. Most major athletes, whether it be football, basketball, etc., we hear occasionally about them, particularly if they're rehabilitating. Or have I just missed something.

This is partially an effort to close out the "Washed Up" thread for good . . .

Didn't we 'agree' to lay off Webb (and Gabe) until we had some definitive good news to report? Give them some time off, please. In your effort to end one thread, you've just started another one in which we'll see the same old crap again.

Re: Alan Webb's Thread -- New

        2001 - 2003

        Nate Brennan - 3:57

        Nick Willis - 3:36.5 (3:53 mile)

        Alan Webb - 3:58.88

That pretty much sums up Alan Webb's performance for the last 720 days. He is now an average professional miler.
I still believe he has a good shot at a 3:50 - 3:52 mile. Just about all elite milers better their high school times.

These Alan Webb discussions have a life of their own. I guess nobody can believe Webb is not a super star yet. If you told me in 2001 that Webb's post high school PR would be 3:58.55 by late 2003 I would have said get lost.

Something is wrong and the Webb camp is trying to hid it. This is classic damage control.

We are going to get scant information on Webb for the rest of the year so there is little point in speculation.

Here we go again. Webb's people will be complaining to GH soon.

When Webb starts running well all these annoying threads about him will disappear. People are just venting their fustration that "America's next great miler" is becoming just another American miler.

How many of you are being honest with your shrinks about how much frustration it's causing?
Cuz it ain't normal and it ain't pretty.

Well, it seems to have worked -- the other Webb thread appears to be killed (please don't resurrect it). And I did find some interesting information out that I didn't know before -- he ran in a cross-country meet recently. Didn't know if he was even running, after the appendix deal.
