  • T&FN study of state per capita production of sub-4 miler

Several years ago, T&FN published a study of each state's production of sub-4:00 milers per capita. I remember Oregon was first and Kansas was second.

I believe it was around the time of the 50th anniversary of Bannister's sub-4:00, when there were a couple of issue with heavy mile coverage.

I can't find that issue at home. Can anyone post that? I don't see it in the archives; just the all-time sub-4:00 list.

Much appreciate any help in getting the results.

I don't THINK it was in the magazine (or if it was, it was just as a small note). The full thing was actually on here somewhere, no? As part of the thread about fastest miler in each state?

No, it was definitely in the magazine as a colored sidebar.

Just ran a search for the fastest miler thread and didn't have any luck.

Stat Corner of May '04 is on U.S. sub-4:00 guys broken down by which state in which they went to high school, crediting poster 'JSully' as the source. At the end there's a graf which credits "racewalker" for doing by-population in the same thread and notes that Oregon came out tops there, followed by Kansas and Rhode Island.

That's it. That's the one I'm looking for.
