  • 2004 World Cross

I hope this is allowed. I couldn't see a definite no in the rules.
I have two people wishing to travel to France and Belgium to watch the World CC next March. Although they have plenty of money for hotels, they wish an immersion experience and would like to find host athletes or families. Does anyone have links to clubs with message boards in those countries ?
    Thank you in advance.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this. In fact, I would encourage it. Would encourage anything that helps broaden the "family" of track & field fans.

I would hope that when Olympic Trials time rolls around next summer that we have all kinds of give and take regards helping people find places to stay, where the best entertainment is, where to find good food, etc., etc.

(no, wait, i take the last part of that back: trying to eat after the meet in Sacto can be problematic, so if anybody gives up the location of the one really good place i've found, they're toast!)

For example, you wouldn't be talking about a certain semi-veggie place on Howe about a mile from the stadium, would you?

Sorry, I'm a certified carnivore. Vegetables are for 4-legged critters :-)

Here's the French language discussion group from the Belgian federation:

You could post something and see what kind of response you get.

I had good luck with a similar endeavour years ago. I went to the '95 Brussels Cross Cup. I put out a message on a message board and ended up staying with a Flemish guy and his family in the suburbs. Very hospitable people. Great time. They made me Brussels sprouts because they thought that's what an American would want to eat while in Brussels.

In that case, I'll give the scoop on the place. It's called Fresh Choice. It's an all-you-can-eat buffet deal with everything (including pizza and ice cream) but no meat. Cost, as of 2002, was @ $7.00. I'm not a big veggie dude myself--I live for sausage pizza!--but this place is darn good for a change of pace. And when I was competing, I felt great the day after eating here.
In my confessed few visits to Sac (from Tahoe, at the time), I never really found a great Mexican place. Any ideas, if that doesn't spill the beans?

All good Mexican chefs spill the beans.
