  • SPEARMON 19.65!!!

Great run by Wallace today in Daegu. Wasn't pressed (winner nearly a second behind?). Ran smooth and relaxed to the third fastest time ever.

As in Shanghai, Liu Xiang had to run down A. Johnson over the last few hurles, just outleaning him.

    Isinbayeva 4.70, I think.

    Good meet.

    hopefully we see vid

he has a habit of only running hard to the line when behind

with such an easy win, i wonder if he eased off towards the end ?

"I was just very happy to break my own record," Spearmon said. "The crowd were very involved here and it has been a great day. I am just getting into great shape and I'm really starting to run fast."
According to news reports, Spearmon achieved the time without any challenge from the rest of the runners, with compatriot Kaaron Conwright among those who trailed in 30 metres adrift.

3,624 moves him up to 7:th on the combo list (from 11:th).

That's what I was thinking. Why this year? Did X-Man just show the way, kind of opening the door??

There's no predicting these things, but clearly (or "clearly") the event had been flat-lined for too long. Yesterday's 20 flat is today's 19.85...or so...

That winning margin is a bit surreal.

Off the top of my head, I think that makes Spearmon only the second guy ever to have 5 legal sub-20s in the same season. MJ did it in '96 (and also had another wind-aided one).

There was immediate speculation about the mark. Aside from it being fast, the wind was +0.0.

Shades of Flo-Jo? Not at all. The wind grew progressively stronger through the night, but was always a negative wind for the sprinters (positive for the jumpers, but on the other side of the stadium.)

Spearmon ran in lane 6. He absolutely crushed the field.

Here are the remaining times tonight against listed PRs:
                        race PR Athlete
                        21.30 20.35 Takahira
                        21.44 21.02 Lim
                        21.51 20.59 Conwright
                        21.54 21.58 Park
                        21.56 20.95 Jeon
                        22.19 21.53 Ha
                        22.23 21.49 Cho

The race wasn't special for anyone other than Spearmon. If the timing were suspect, we'd see times much closer to PR level.

                        It was a monstah!

I'm tellin' ya; these guys are finally figuring out that you can run faster in the outer lanes. Forget trying to watch people from 3 and 4.

I have not seen a video fo the race. Hopefully it will hit the internet soon.

I bet he was relaxed AND blasted it as it was the end of his season. He has definitely looked tense running against the big guns. I assume, for once he did not have to worry about them. Relaxation can never be overlooked in the sprints.
