Hey, who do you all think is going to be the next 100m superstar in the next decade?

In my pinion I think Darrel Brown of Trinidad & Tobago, is going to do amazing things.

He ran a 10.01s 100m WJR, and he is only 18.
Now thats something to think about.

If history teaches us anything is that sprinters who show the most early promise are the guaranteed burnouts. I'm hoping young master Bolt is an exception.

Brown has progressed steadily since we first heard about him three years ago when he ran 10.35 at the age of 15.

I agree most of the top sprinter actually do burnout within their careers. Example Maurice Green, he is through. Darrel Brown is the best sprinter I believe right now, and Bolt is great. Why are'nt we seeing no Americans? The West Indies are stepping up their game!!

I think that America's new best are going to me Darvis Patton, and Justin Gatlin.

But, I believe Darrel Brown, will be able to achieve great things, after all who knows of someone who could run a 10.35 100m at the age of 15?

He has the WJR of 10.01 at the age of 18.

I believe if he trains hard, and perfects his form, he will be able to top out at around 9.7x or 9.6x. I don't think its out of reach for him.

Whoa, hold on a second, not always so: consider the following, including some Olympic medallists as young as 16 and 17:

Marion Jones, Marlies Gohr, Evelyn Ashford, Chandra Cheeseborough, Marita Koch, Heike Dreschler, Barbel Wockel, Jana Pittman, Wilma Rudolph, Raelene Boyle, Wyomia Tyus, Irena Kirszenstein......

Joe DeLoach, Justin Gatlin, Danny Harris, Dwayne Chambers, Carl Lewis, Renaldo Nehemiah, Alejandro Casanas, Colin Jackson, Llewelyn Herbert....

An incomplete list by far, but more than enough to show that huge early promise is hardly a formula for "guaranteed burnout".

Well I only see one American here, and that is John Capel. He did well at the World Championships, and he is training in Gainesville under the supervision is Coach Holloway, I think he will do good in the next Olympics. Watch out for him. Trust me.

You can't just base future performance on their age.

The rate of improvement is more important than their age, also their health and condition are also important. What I mean is, to improve well, you have to train hard, and have a strong work ethic. Those are the most important areas to maxing out your performance.

There are 9 others including Carl Lewis and Marion Jones. I'll save you the embarrassment of listing the other 7, though they have 13 Olympic gold medals among them.

Hey Briana, where is your source for Brown running a 10.35s 100m at the age of 15.
And Brown ran a 10.01 (WJR) at the age of 18.

Thats simply amazing, Ato Boldon ran a 10.87s 100m at the age of 16. And MO ran 10.2 at 17.

Brown ran 10.35 at the 2000 Carifta Games in Trinidad. He was 15 at the time, and it was big news on all the sprint message boards.

One thing that drives me crazy is that athletes are penalized for reaching their potential faster than those who take years to get there.

A guy can hang out on the fringes running 10.10 for a dozen years and throw out a 9.9 at age 30+ and his career is considered successful, but a another athlete pops a 9.9 at age 21 and runs 10.10 for the next dozen years is a burnout and unsuccessful.

Hey, caps man. Everyone is planning on improving. Everyone's coach is planning on them improving. Planning and doing it are two different things. Pre was going to go head to head with Walker, Bayi, etc., to be the first under 3:50 in the mile? Hey, ya gotta dream.
