...she:s also quick to lend a hand to those in need.
Williams, recently named the Visa Humanitarian Athlete of the Year by USA Track & Field, knows her journey does not end at a finish line.
This time the sojourn was to support youth fitness and education as part of the Jan. 28 ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon and its Run for Something Better youth program. Next time it could be to help someone who is deaf -- or blind. Or it might be to slip $100 into the hands of a person who is down to her last pennies, like the woman in front of her at Wal-Mart before Christmas . . . or to give thousands of dollars to South Florida families affected by hurricanes.
''I wasn't abused or abandoned or neglected or anything like that,'' Williams said. ``But I have five sisters and two brothers and had my share of hard times with my mom being a single parent. So I know a little about the struggle.''
