  • Silnov Fishing For a 2.46m Clearance

    http://www.iaaf.org/news/Kind=2/newsId=37274.html

The kid is focussed, dedicated, has had some luck along the way, and, has excellent trainers.

Can he top Sotomayor at the top of the high jump world?

At 6'6/183 pounds, he is s-k-i-n-n-y, which is good and bad. Not too much to have to lift, but is there enough meat on that frame to propel him 2.45? I think Soto is too far out there, but this kid COULD be the WC and/or OG Champ! I do need a 2.50 in the next 20 years, but Pego sez it ain't hapnin.

I like his size and Dwight Stones like gumption, but unless he's got steel cables for tendon's it's not going to happen anytime soon. Why don't we start by having him clear Paklin levels (2.41) before he graduates to the Sotosphere.
If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

Id like to see a couple of 2.40s first, then ill place my bets. His improvement is pretty awesome. For the record, as a freshman in high school I jumped 4'10 at my first meet and 6'10 by the last, that additional foot that he added is somehow still eluding me. :?

Silnov, Rybakov, Holm and Baba can roll some heads in two months if they are all locked in and focussed. Thörnblad has already gotten his feet wet this indoor season. A 2.40m may not be out of the question this EIC, as Holm and Rybakov pushed each other to wits ends in that exciting showdown, with both men taking 2.40m attempts.

Silnov is said to be an excellent student of the sport and is really teachable. I wouldn:t put a 2.40m clearance out of the question for 2007 - whether that be indoors or out.

Baba had surgery last year and so it may be a while before he approaches the elite level again, depending on recovery.

Silinov has great coaching and outstanding potential, but 2.46 could be a little out of his range (at least for now). The IAAf article reminds me of all the articles about Nick Forsyth and Jacques Freitag, who were supposed to beat Soto's records and it just didn't pan out. Soto is the only man to clear 2.43, 2.44 and 2.45, so for Silinov's coach to say that he's going to jump 2.46 this year is a little premature.

Ok so think about this. Lets say he clears 2.40 at a meet, does he bump to 2.46 right away? Lets not forget that ndoors 2.44 would be a WR. Weve already seen him go from 2.36 to 2.42? so what will the progression be. It would be interesting to see some WR attempts at least this season. Like Dietmar said, weve had seasons with this kind of anticipation before, id just like to see someone go above 2.40 for the first time in 12 years outdoors, or 14 years indoors.

I agree with Dietmar and hjumper33. Silnov first needs to establish himself in the 2.38 - 2.42 range.

I don't think he is too thin. He's got muscular legs and he is 83kg (183lbs)
