  • Weekend review, mens high jump

Holy crap, im still just going through results sorting this stuff out. So Sellers breaks out with a 7'5.25 jump and is the 4th best jump of the weekend. I cant remember seeing so many quality marks to early in a long time.

    Donald Thomas Auburn, 7'6.5"
    Jim Dilling Minnesota St. 7'6.5"
    Keith Moffatt Morehouse 7'5.75"
    Scott Sellers Kansas St. 7'5.25"
    Dusty Jonas Nebraska 7'4.24
    4 others at 7'1"

Mike Morrison and Andra Manson still yet to jump, and come outdoors add Kyle Lancaster, another 7'7" guy into the mix. Best high jump field in a while.

To Sellers' credit, he is just a sophomore. Just wait until Texas Relays. Donald Thomas is a monster. This kid has no experience, a little bit of training and we still haven't confirmed if he's jumping in spikes yet and he blasts a 2.30 and may not have peaked yet.
If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

The answer is really quite simple. I read it in Scientific American last week. One of the by-products of Global Warming is a change in the earth's gravitation field, due to warm air rising and countering the natural forces of gravity.

This just makes me wonder, what is the largest amount of auto marks in a single event in a single weekend, but at different venues. Im not interested in the stanford invite 10k where you have to run there to get to nationals or something like that. Just a weekend where several people at different places around the nation step it up at the same time.

            Wowza! 2.30m for the novice!

He's the real deal. Becca - do you know if Donald has got a bit more stability in his training now?

I don t wanna be rude....but Donald Thomas has no D 1 NCAA eligibility. He was a senior in NAIA.......how stupid NCAA ules are for big schools.......what a shame

NCAA rules are 5 years from the day you start college to complete 4 seasons in a given sport. That is how redshirting rules work as well, so it really isnt that dumb. He hasnt completed 4 years of track eligibility, and he is in his 5th year. Good for him for enrolling in graduate school. Much better in my opinion than football players who go to school for 5 years and dont even get a degree.

Edited to add: Also see Pole Vaulter Brad Gabauer formerly of Michigan State fame.

They would have had to have jumped at least 7-7 for me to think the warm-air counter-factor was responsible. You also have to take into account the cow methane atmosphere density reducement factor.

Excellent summary, dietmar! At least SOME of those jumpers should be able to improve outdoors. Too many times we've had good indoor jumping and then don't see it replicated outdoors.

A good example was Dilling. Last year, he PR'ed at 2.29 indoors and never jumped higher than 2.21 outdoors.

Both Thörnblad and Holm jumped 2.30 this weekend so they seem ready to take on the russians. With all the great results this weekend I can barely wait for Eurojump on wednesday and Arnstadt on saturday. considering Arnstadts bouncy floor we might see a 2.40+ jump.
