Congrats to Tennessee, but let's not read too much into it. JJ Clark is still not a good distance coach. I'd say he should stick to 400 and less.

Besides, the SEC is unbelievably weak on the women's cross side of things this year.

Well to be honest, I am more of a lurker than a poster. Unless of course I feel I have something that might at to the subject.

As for Tiffany McWilliams, I am a Lydiard person, and feel if you go the low milage route, you will not meet your full potential. You can't argue with his success, or the success of those who have followed his principles.

powderjay, I didn't know you lurked here. Good to see our women finally do something in track/XC. It's been a few years.

Did you see the men's result though? I almost barfed on the keyboard. 6th place is totally unacceptable. I think we've written off XC for track though. Arky makes distance the foundation of its track program, so they're good in XC automatically; we use sprinters, it seems.

Anyhow, there was a time when 2nd place in the SEC was a disaster for our XC program. Is 6th place the worst finish ever for us in men's XC? I think it is.

Anyone else see the fifth place Tiffany McWilliams finish as a red flag? She's got more talent than the four in front of her put together. Properly trained, she should have won that going away. Yeah, I know the arguments that she's a miler bla bla bla.

Full disclosure: I think her low miles, Brooks Johnson style program is a recipe for stagnation. Looks like that's being borne out. Let's hope I'm wrong and that she improves this Olympic year track season.

Fantastic, JJ has done an incredible job. Hope this is the first of many. Now let's get those men back in the cross country groove.

J.J. Clark already has an SEC title to his credit at Tennessee. I don't believe the Lady Vols have won SEC track or cross since '90 or '91! Way to go, girls!!!!!!!!
