Big, tough, soon-to-be NFL player Ross can't hang with his finacee, Sanya Richards.
I'm sure he can't hang with her in the 400 when she's in peak form off of his football conditioning. But 40 yards might be a different story. How many women can actually run 40 yards in 4.45 seconds?
Do you really still believe that these times are legit, given that the fastest any human has ever run in spikes is around 4.38?
What does legit mean? Do the times have to include reaction time in order to be considered legit. If the times accurately indicate running time only, can't they be considered legit also? I agree with you that hand times are bogus. But if the clock is started by some type of electronic device that detects movement and stopped by another electronic device 40 yards laway, why isn't that legit? Can't we track fans just subtract reaction time from 4.38,.37,.36, etc. to get a fair comparison? Doesn't the fact that a true track guy like Jonathan Wade could only manage a 4.36 give legitimacy to the NFL Combine's timing system?
Man, you're on a roll! First X-man, now Richards. Two fine athletes you've accused of dogging it in the space of a few days.
There's no crime in fine athletes enjoying life and looking out for their interests. As long as Richards is keeping Nike and USATF happy, I don't consider being with her fiance on the biggest day of his life dogging it. How do we know that she didn't level with them, but decided that you media types might not understand? You always hear stories about athletes in other sports missing games or leaving in the middle of tournaments in order to witness the birth of a child. Would Aaron Ross be dogging it if he left his NFL team for a few days right before the start of the 2008 season in order to fly to Bejing to watch the women's 400 final?
But if the clock is started by some type of electronic device that detects movement and stopped by another electronic device 40 yards laway, why isn't that legit?
But you were referring to the NFL Combine, which uses the 'partially electronic' (giggle) method of anticipating the movement of the athlete at the start.
I ask again, do you consider this method acceptable?
