Perhaps. This was an NCAA record, however!

There are a couple of 3-decade old marks better than this, but they were WRs when run. Remember who?

I believe it was from a Kenyan, but don:t remember which one ran 27.22,47.

                  Go Ducks newsflash:

According to a race report, Rupp took the lead with 1,200m en route to 2:05 last 800m and 60-second final 400m splits to break the former Duck record owned by Bill McChesney Jr. (27:50.82, 1982).

Rupp’s time moved him to seventh all-time in U.S history. He also moved to tops among American collegians and third overall in NCAA history behind the Kenyan pair of Henry Rono (27:22.47, 1978) and Samson Kimombwa (27:30.47, 1977) from Washington State.

It is the fastest during the season. Rono and Kimombwa ran 27;22 and 27;30 in Europe, world records at the time. UTEP's Kamau ran 27;36 in 1982 at Mt Sac.

                      Henry got one, Virgin?

Edit for stupidity: I forgot Samson (also a Wazzu guy), WR holder before Henry. The UTEPer at MSR, I too forget his name (not Nambuyi). His mark was a US all comers record at the time. Natch, I didn't go down that year.

My FAST is still in the garage, but I think Jen Rhines PRed as well. Over 10 seconds faster than the last two years.

                        Kimombwa's the other (shown above).

I'm curious as to why they list the meet record as 28:16 by Brad Hauser. That time is bettered every year at this meet.

When you say "list", do you mean in the program? Modesto is the only meet on the west coast (which I have attended) which has a worse program than Stanford. A veritable "child's garden of misinformation"

A nice turn of speed. PR?

Will be fun to see what happens next. Naysayers need to appreciate how hepatitis can wreck you internally for years, especially if an athlete.

Faster than Webb's and Ritz's 10000 at the exact same meet last year.
