  • The Rebirth Of Ivory Williams

If the name of the Modesto 100 winner seemed vaguely familiar, that's because he was a prep phenom, running a soph-class record 10.27 back in ’02. Then was World Junior champ in '04. The 10.27 stayed his PR (although he had multiple wind-aided races faster) until the Modesto 10.03. He turned 22 last week.

    A good comeback, but don't become excited...10.13 wind +1.3...

A like comparison, as his previous PB was run with a +1,0 m/s.

Mark is irrelevant; when a teenage phenom gets a PR 5 years later, that's worth shouting about, even if it's just by 0.01.

          From the Mod R thread.

Rebirth maybe isn't quite the word because he never actually went away, just never ran quick wind-legal times. Marvin Anderson (who was 2nd in 10.15) broke a 4-yr old legal best (was 10.24).

Yes, if a certain CA HS 400 star accomplished this it would draw rave reviews.

These runners are a few of the previous Modesto 100 champions:

Carl Lewis 1985, Harvey Glance 1986, Leroy Burrel 1991, Andre Cason 1992, Jon Drummond 1993, Ato Boldon 1997, Tim Montgomery 2001, Dwight Phillips 2004, Leonard Scott 2005, and now Ivory Williams 2007.

Carl Lewis still holds the meet record of 9.97 set in 1983.

Ivory Williams improved his PB and took some decent scalps down in Guadeloupe:

                100m/TCM | M | Finale 1 | Chr : E | Vt : +0.9
                1 10''09 WILLIAMS Ivory (Usa) Etats Unis 000 _HF SEM/85 IB 1195
2 10''14 CHRISTIAN Brendan (Ant) Antigua et Barbuda 000 _HF SEM/83 IB 1179
                3 10''20 EDGAR Tyrone (Gbr) Grande Bretagne 000 _HF SEM/82 IB 1160
                4 10''22 BLANTON Dabryan (Usa) Etats Unis 000 _HF SEM/84 IB 1153
                5 10''23 MARTIN Rodney (Usa) Etats Unis 000 _HF SEM/82 IB 1150
                6 10''34 HENRY Anson (Can) Canada 000 _HF SEM/79 N1 1116
                7 10''45 WILLIAMS Ricardo (Jam) Jamaique 000 _HF SEM/76 N2 1082
                8 10''45 WILLIAMS Bernard (Usa) Etats Unis 000 _HF SEM/78 N2 1082

At first glance at this meet's really solid marks across the board, I was thinking that it must be at a bit of altitude up on one of Guadeloupe's volcanic peaks, but in fact it was in a place called Baie Mahault, which is listed at 0.0 m altitude.

Ivory Williams wants a ticket to Beijing it would seem. I know he's a great relay runner, so it could happen if he continues to improve.

He set two PRs, both worth about the same because he hit 10.11/0.5 in his heat to go with this 10.09/0.9 (both yield about 10.13/basic.

I'm drinking just enough to wager that when Texas guarantees that some team will win the Super Bowl, and then they don't.......poof!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wouldn't matter, I'd still be in touch with all that old stuff. Wasn't around in the days of Blind Lemon Jefferson and Charley Patton, yet I have all those old primitive recordings.

I punish myself when I 'm wrong about a game. No excuses for not seeing that coming.
