                bob kennedy will always be an inspiration to me, especially after watching his atlanta race. but the one man who i seek for training advice is the same man paul tergat often converses with. sean hartnett (yes, he's also a writer for this mag) has taught me more about running than anyone could have even dreamed of doing.

                          This was in 1954 of course. But this is a great choice. Anyone who saw (on TV mainly) Peters' effort to run essentially a sub 2.20 marathon in those terrible conditions, has to put this near the top of his list. How much later, did the next runner enter the stadium - over 10 mins.?

                            No Finns? Debatable. Pauli Nevala is I think a good candidate for one of the 7-10 positions (Oly gold in 1964 and numerous long throws, good competitions later on). Probably better all round than Siitonen and others, though some may prefer Jorma Kinnunen.
