Everyone (!) wants the state meet at UF, including UF, but sometimes their schedule just doesn't allow it. Graduation was the same weekend as the 3A/4A meets. Winter Park HS did a great job hosting it this year (I worked the 1A meet as PV Official and coached at the 2A), but it's still 'just' a HS track, albeit a GREAT one. The 'journalist' who wrote that article didn't do her homework to find out WHY UF couldn't host it. I'd like it at FSU too, but that's too big a drive for the Miami area schools.

Here in CA they are currently bouncing the State Meet between Hughes Stadium at Sacramento City College, and Cerritos College in Norwalk every other year. Both hold a bunch of spectators (maybe 15k at Norwalk, 25k at Hughes). The overall facilities at Hughes (track, pits, equipment, etc.) look to be close to first rate.

The track at Norwalk looks to be about the worst track I have ever seen a meet on. Huge holes in the surface of the track and runways, rails that don’t connect correctly (actually tripping at least one athlete last year), etc. A disgrace . . .

Have run on both tracks... prefer Cerritos College.

They haven't resurfaced Cerritos since you ran there and it shows. Hughes has a relatively new surface.

Both Hughes and Cerritos have hosted US nationals, Hughes many times, Cerritos just once, I think. At the '90 meet, the Cerritos track looked okay to me, but that was nearly 18 years ago, so the track may well be shot now. bh, I assume you went down to the state meet last year? That would be a much more recent look-see.

Yep, the only time I've been there. I've never seen a big-time meet held on such a pathetic track.

The meet was in June of '90; it's now May of '07. It seems to me it was nearly 17 years ago.
