  • Is Marion skipping 2007 ?

    Possibly redundant but cannot find the answer.

          I believe only one of those facts is preventing her from competing.

            So if may we may presume that Obadele Thompson is the father and TM is the father of her first-born, that's gonna be one lucky High School where the Marion family ends up.

                Genetics...

                Michael Carter ---> Michelle Carter
                Wallace Spearmon Sr --> Wallace Jr.
                Lennox Miller ---> Inger Miller

                There are plenty of others, but those 3 come immediately to mind.

                  There are far more world class athletes who don't produce world class progeny than who do.

                    But the proportion of world-class progeny is vastly higher from that set than from the population as a whole.

                      True, but the statement that started us off on this tangent was "that's gonna be one lucky High School where the Marion family ends up," said as if it were a sure thing. I was just pointing out that it's not at all.

                        The progeny do not have to be world-class or national-class to be highly successful in HS. I don't care how much the kids regress to the mean, if they CHOOSE to sprint (or hurdle or jump), I bet the odds are VERY good that the girl can run run 12.00 or the boy 11.00 which would score well at the State Championships of almost ALL states.

                          Almost all states; MJ is from California and the are currently in Texas, two key exceptions to 'all'.

                            THIS year's 5A (largest class) Texas State results.

                              Having 17 sections is Texas' way of becoming a normal state. However, the extra importance of the relays in Texas, combined with all of the sections means that an relatively modest performance can place at state in the relays, especially if you are lucky in your region (in 6A, those are probably NOT the top eight, they are just the top two from each of four regions).
