  • Los Gatos HS !!

I was reading up on a HS bPVer 17-footer and found the HS's track page with seasonal performances. I remember Los Gatos as just another Bay Area rich SF suburb. What the heck is in the water to effect these results??!!

Nico Weiler, the 17'3" PVer is actually a German exchange student. Has an exchange student ever been in the top 3, or maybe even led, a HS list?

It depends on how you define 'exchange student'. We certainly have had LOTS of foreigners lead the USA HS lists.

The HSR with the new javelin is held by Finn Tommi Viskari.

          wow.
I went to HS up the penninsula but I set half my PR's at that Los Gatos high track. Many, many fond memories.

            Small world.

I set my mile PR against Jeff Atkinson on that track, and also went to hs on the peninsula.

The best All-Comers meets in the Bay Area!

LG has always had good middle distance runners, particularly strong on the women:s side.

Los Gatos is at the bottom of the Silicon and Santa Clara Valley about 50 miles from San Francisco and 20 miles from Santa Cruz. I don't think any community in that area considers themselves to be a San Francisco burb.

Additionally Los Gatos is in the CCS, Central Coast Section. Always had top marks in track and field. Back in the National Postal days, 1971, as a Jr. I ran a 9:30 two mile, note 'two mile' NOT 3200 meters!" and got 33rd place. Can you believe that?!?! Thirty third! So those marks posted above are not unusual for meets in that area.

But from what I've been reading these past few years that Los Gatos track must be a good one. Was it two years ago the CCS meet was held there and the Woman's 800 had three or four girls under 2:10? Amazing for High School.

I believe Marius Bakken was atop the 2-mile list when he was at York for one year.

Greatest Los Gatos HS product: my wife!

It can probably be considered a burb of San José. mmm, come to think of it, given the relative size of things, San Francisco is now a burb of San José!

Calvin Gaziano won Postal Meet there in 1984 in 9.02,6y. He ran 8.55,2y indoors a couple months later indoors.

I did set a 26-second PB there at that track as well - in the autumn. Attributed it to the competition. A rival of mine ran a 9.15,2y on that track at a Postal competition and never again ran faster than 9.35y anywhere else... again, could have been the comp when he won Postal (61 last lap). Teammate of mine a year ahead of me ran a 9.24,0y there in the autumn (Postal), and then 9.19,55 in the spring.

Does anybody want to claim to be a burb of San Jose? Kinda like my wife says her hometown of Danville is outside SF when it's closer to outside of Oakland.
