  • At last an Ethiopian steeplechaser...

Eshetu Tura's days as Ethiopian steeplechase record holder (8:13.57 winning bronze at Moscow Olympics) seem to be numbered.
Roba Gari followed his 5:19.96 2k in Herrera with 8:15.05 to win in Brazzaville (ahead of Reuben Kosgei). Surely only a matter of time bfore he takes the record.

or 10 others do. The days of Kenya's stranglehold on the event are also numbered.

Ethiopians are starting to do well in women's SC. This year in Doha, two of them ran 9:37 and 9:42.

I thought Middle Eastern powerhouses Qatar and Bahrain had ended the domination already...

Its to early to tell... but i think he has 8;08 in him.

He will be one to watch.. the bad thing is that he is 26 and there is no one else that helps him out..

Shaheen and Kenyans will eat him alive.. but he is a front runner.. so he will make the race very interesting.

I think he will get bronze

i think gebre gebremariam who ran 2652 for 10 last saturday and 1252 for 5k 2 years ago, and is the tallest elite ethiopian at 22 years old could break 8 for the steeple if he tried it. also berhane adere can probabably smash the womens record if she ran it.

It will be a cold day in Mombasa when the Kenya juggernaut stumbles. Bats will also fly from my caudal regions.

Actually, one of the top Ethiopian steeplechasers, Tewodros Shiferaw (8:22.22) won the Plymouth half-marathon last year in 63:35 8)

8:17.52 NJR! by Nahom Mesfin Tariku (3.6.89) just behind Kenya's Elijah Chelimo (8:16.28, born 1987) in Neerpelt, Belgium on Saturday.

                        Women's NR 9:28.03 and good 10k too:

It's about time: they didn't even get a runner into the final in '04. Have been lacking in good team management for years. They have about four times the pop. of Kenya.

Some places are listing that as a world junior record.

                              Should be shouldn't it?

Old record: 9:30.70 Melissa Rollison 2001 (which I thought had some water-jump issue anyway)...
