  • Ottey opens with...

an 11.83 100m in Floro, Norway.

With her recent 11.73, maybe Privalova has the beating of her in this event afterall!
"If Gaby worked as hard with the weights as she did with her tongue she'd have a different concept of beauty. To get performances like mine, she'd have to sacrifice some of her good looks. The women of the west dont work as hard as we do" JK

"This was an OK start for me. I am absolutely no in shape at the moment. If I only could get a little more training, my races will be faster. But I opened better than last year".

actually saw the race in florö but it really looked tensed but maybe she just needs to run a couple of races.

Impressive win in the same meet by Norwegian juior Enzinne Okaparebo who almost took the NR down with an11,43.

hey, that's not so bad for a first race. i really hope she can meet the world champs standard of 11.32. it would be awesome to see her in Beijing. she says she wants to try. check out this TV interview she gave for Norwegian TV.

I can't find Merlene's 11.74 listed here -- just the fact she anchored relay:

Anyone have a link to 11.74?

                Oops, nevahmind.

I found her 11.74 (in a heat, not a final):
                http://62.101.83.30/risultati/AT/2007/M ... 04002.html

                And it was wind-aided.

Ottey has a big race in Ostrava tomorrow. I didn't actually realise she ran as fast as 11.34 last season. Would that mark qualify her for Osaka?

I've barely seen her smile before nevermind laugh.

Oops, she went "soft" with a 12.03 at Ostrava:

Poor Merlene. Can't break 12 at age 47!

I have to say, the last few seasons she has started slowly but made steady progression...I really don't want to see Merlene a distant last in all her races- it ruins the legacy to some extent...as long as she is competitive, keep going, but if she isn't going to get past the heats or even qualify for the major championships, perhaps its time to hang up the spikes...

I made her laugh once at a party in Monaco, but it took an exceedingly randy sequence of jokes to do so.
