I believe Thomas wants the collegiate record so that would put him around 2.39m or so. I could also see Sellers going 2.34 and I think Jonas could be around 2.30m.

This has the makings of a great event 5 over 2.30? Does any one have the all time best for place list for the NCAA highjump? In '94 I know the top seven were over 2.22. I know this because I had a bet with another competitor who said it would take 2.22 to score. Unfortunately I won the bet getting 8th at 2.19.

like so many NCAA events (particularly field), the '80s set standards that are boggling by today's expectations.

As I've explained before, there was less gravity in the 80s than now, so it's not a fair comparison! Global Warming has caused more high pressure systems around the globe, pushing down on our bodies, so we can't jump as high.
. . . and to think my 8th grade Earth Science teacher said I didn't have a mind for science!!

GH, I recall Steve Smith from Illinois State jumping 2.33 during the late 80's as well. He grew up not far from me in Heyworth. Illinois has had a ton of great jumpers (Plab, Smith, Olsen, Clements, Peacock, Page)

Yes, of course it is. This is the all-time list of marks made in the NCAA Championships (not to be confrused with a collegiate all-time list)

I distantly recall one year at BYU...where the jumps went nuts? Can anyone refresh my memory? Or is it my mind... just... mush.

'82----had to be partially from the altitude, but believe Dwight always thought it was mainly because they had a monster new interior apron that allowed for unimpeded/uninterrupted approaches.

Really low qualifying at 2.10 but the favorites all looked good. First time id seen sellers jump in a while and all I can say is wow. Wouldnt be suprised if he took the title home.
