  • Top T&FN Pet Peeves?

Anybody have any to offer up, keeping in mind that we all love 99% of what "our" magazine does?

Here are a couple that come to mind for me:

    1. Calling HS boys and girls "men" and "women." This really drives me nuts.

    2. Stacy Dragila on every cover.

    3. Article about Stacy Dragila in every issue.

    4. Alan Webb on every cover that doesn't have Dragila.

    Others?

    Letters that mention Alan Webb.

TAFNew's refusal to be out front about all the Kenyans in their early and mid 20's competing as juniors. They have a lot of talented runners, but it's ridiculous. But, TAFNews is nothing if not politically correct.

Yep. Eliud Kiphchoge is 18. No doubt about it. If you're PC that is.

changing the rules on the world rankings each year, for example an American stops running at the end of June gets ranked on a truncated schedule yet one year later a foreigner is not ranked as they did not compete in the weighted August month!

How about this one? Overuse of the word "hot."

            "NCAA Championships Hot"

            "Hot Texas Relays"

            Etc.

ok, looks like someone has some hostility toward stacy. look, you can deny it, but isnt breaking world records and winning world and olympic titles in a very exciting event in track and field worthy of some recognition. i mean, she helped an event progress and will be remembered in the anals of track and field as one of the pioneers in women's pole vault. plus, why not put someone on the cover who is easy on the eyes.
i can kind of agree with the alan webb thing, but they were just giving the people what they want.

I still think it was funny when they used "The Shot's Big Shot" twice in a year for their cover.

                  1) No Master's coverage.

                  2) Little or no insight on training of top athletes.

                  3) Too many photos of athletes having just completed event (often w/flags waving, holding up fingers, etc.) and not enough of "full flight/full of fight" photos.

                    Re: Top T&FN Pet Peeves?

When there is a thrower on the cover it seems to typically say "The Shot's big shot"

                    c'mon put some effort in.

I don't want to burden you with our on-the-job problems, but it's getting increasingly harder (particularly at big international meets) to get anything but post-race shots. The all-powerful TV people have created massive "no-go" zones all over the stadia and we poor shutterbugs are increasingly ghettoized into a position at the end of the straightaway, often very far from the finish line. Obviously, there are some ways around this, but you should be aware that the days of roaming the infield (or even the outside of the track) are no more.

"Historic doubles", "never done in history", when referring to 4k/10k XC doubles.

Haw haw. Look at him. Kind of like Ngeny's high school coach admitting Ngeny hit the age limit for juniors while in HS, yet there he was, running as junior, etc. several years later. Get real, you PC pudnocker.
