Michigan State through '64 (during which period the hosts won 7 times), then to Kansas two years, then has bounced about ever since.

Time To Retire The NCAA XC Nationals?

Also known as, today, November 21, is the 65th birthday of the meet! A senior citizen who has aged well.

First meet was held at East Lansing, Michigan on 11/21/38 (a Monday) over 4M. Winner was Greg Rice of Notre Dame in 20:12.9. Indiana beat Notre Dame 61-68 for the team title. A quick look at the top 50 doesn't indicate anybody who probably wasn't able to drive home after the meet in time for dinner.

Interesting to note that they list winners of gold, silver and bronze medals: golds to the first 3, silvers to the second 3, bronzes to the next 4.
