A short AP report that's so short I'll take the liberty of quoting it in total

    <<Associated Press - July 11, 2007 4:23 PM ET

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida State athletic director David Hart Junior has been informed that he won't have his contract renewed when it expires in 18 months.

He's served as the Seminoles' AD since 1995.

Florida State has won a national title in football and two in track and field during Hart's tenure, although the baseball and basketball programs have struggled in recent years.

The school's president has been pushing the 58-year-old Hart the past few years to improve working relationships with other university offices, improve procedures for investigating allegations of wrongdoing by athletes and the internal communications within the athletic department.>>

The local paper says it all boils down to a 'personality conflict' between the Prez and the AD. The AD has done an outstanding job in every regard. They'll end up having to buy out his contract to save face. Whoever thought that being the AD was about bringing in money and getting W's is sadly mistaken.

Another part of the problem is simply UF's enormous recent success. No matter how good FSU is in a national sense, they always have the large Gator shadow to contend with.

It's all about globalization ... or maybe global warming.

        ?????

That's still the name of the game in the AD world, but even then you have to get along with the boss . . .

Is it possible that the problem is in the boss's head, not in reality? Then what do you do? If there were a conflict at UF right now, the Prez would be gone long before the AD or the football/basketball coaches!
