I think it is a terrific idea.
Like the outdoor NHL game held in Edmonton this past weekend, it will be a memorable once-in-a-lifetime event, and the shotputters are very fortunate that their event was selected.

I agree. But the tv presentation better be good (i.e., every lead change during competition. And good camera shots to capture the drama ..as in ALL T&F events in the Games.)

And I also think ALL the running events should be run around the old -200 meters of mostly straightaway track!
Until there is 100% accurate drug testing, marks won't mean anything and Paris showed that competition is what makes the world go around anyway.
I think it would be great and great for the sport's global visibility.

Didn't Cubertin get the same naked jokes when he wanted to restart the Olympics? Some of you need to realize the world existed long before you were born and it will go on long after you leave.

I think this is a great idea. It will feature an exciting event which doesn't get the coverage it deserves, while bring attention to a magnificent historic stadium.

I like to applaud the Greeks for allowing the original modern day stadium to remain. So, if they want to showcase that stadium to help its interest level, I am all for have a couple events being held there. It is a wonderful stadium that deserves admiration and respect for it's historic value.

And I'm sure the shot putters will love having a packed crowd just cheering them on. It should be a great event to attend. If I had the means I would be there.

Hah! American chances of seeing much of the real competition probably just got worse. The shot competitions will now undoubtedly go up against a touch-feely day in gymnastics and won't even get mentioned.

No, wait, I take that back! There'll be a half-hour program narrated by an archeologist and sociologist on the socio-economic impact of the early Olympic Games on Ancient Greek culture. You know, "up close and personal."

Does anyone know if the medal ceremony will be at "Olympia" Stadium or the main "Olympic" stadium?

Also, why the possibility of rescheduling the event to the 18th and 19th, before any other T & F events begin?

Medal ceremonies in the main stadium on the 20th (day the men's event was supposed to be contested).

The ancient stadiumis about 4 and a half hours away from the main stadium, so they doing before the main stadium starts so more people can go to Olympia.

Pursuant to my "screw the ticket-buying public" comment higher up, prices for the first night of track come in three categories: 90, 70 or 40 Euros (add c10% for dollars). They may have tweaked the time schedule slightly, but for that not-cheap price, here's what you'll now see:

                          7:30pm SP W Hept
                          7:45pm 1500 M heats
                          8:00pm DT W Qual
                          8:15pm HJ M Qual
                          8:20pm 100 W quarters
                          9:00pm 200 W Hept
                          9:35pm 400 M heats
                          9:55pm 800 W heats
                          10:30pm 10,000 M Final
                          11:10pm 5000 W heats

                          How's that for a bang-for-your-buck Olympic experience?!

Re the above, these possibilities come to mind:

                            a) a joke
                            b) a farce
                            c) a gyp
                            d) all the above

Did I read that timetable correctly? The women's 5K races start at 23:10, getting out around midnight?

You are correct, sir! And action the next morning (men's discus Q) starts at 09:00.

But that's nothing compared to Days 5/6. Men's 1500 final starts at 23:25 on Tuesday, women's javelin Q starts at 07:30 on Wednesday. Might as well just plan on pulling an all-nighter?
