  • celebrity sighting

I flew back home from Europe yesterday and was surprised to see that one of my fellow passengers on the London to Chicago leg was Susie Favor Hamilton. After some hesitation, I went up to her to say how big a fan of hers I've been. We ended up chatting for 10 or 15 minutes and I was just amazed at how personable, down to earth, and gracious she is. (I also couldn't believe she's 35--she looks 25.) I've always admired her as an athlete--win or lose, SFH gives everything in a race. Every race she's in is an honest one--no one will get a cheap win. It's nice, in addition, to get the clear sense that she's also a world-class person. I think it's safe to say that she SHOULD have lots more first place medals on her shelf than the record books currently show. AND, if there's any justice in the world, she'll be on the medal stand in Athens next summer. I won't be the only one rooting for her.

Suzi took some bad press this past year (or was it last year)but she proved her courage in Sydney... she sure knows how to run to the end of her string. Gutsy great gal.

I only have one question: with Regina gone, who's going to outkick Suzy in the OT?

Look at how McWilliams is doing in cross. I know she's an 8/15 runner, but I think she's losing whatever strength she had. Coach Schmidt is a Brooks Johnson follower. That doesn't bode well.

and how well did she do last year? She is not an xc runner. She is like the female Krummenaker.
I don't necessarily abide by the low-mileage speed orientation of her training in general, but neither can I argue with the results.

if her training volume doesn't go up, it won't last
