Did Webb leave it too late to make the Aug cover?

Digital photography lesson 101: resolution is irrelevant. We can work with whatever rez a photog sends.

But if there isn't enough data in the original image, you can't use it. As you make the resolution higher, you shrink the size of the image, since you're working with a fixed number of pixels.

So to repeat: one has no way of knowing from simply looking at an on-screen image whether or not it will work in print (with the chances of it being so decreasing as you make the picture larger).

Whoa there, cowboy! Over 300ppi/dpi this may be somewhat true, but (gasp) screen res (72)?

Photos posted on the Web obviously aren't suitable for print reproduction (except with very small images).

But why argue about whether a high-rez image exists?

        Just email the shooter!

I suggest you go back and read the whole thread before you start ranting like an idiot. I said ages ago we had the art in hand. I subsequently proceeded to try to explain to people why something they see online and think is great may well not exist in usable fashion.

Dix is finally (technical difficulties) getting his few moments of fame up front (since it's his second this year--a rarity--it's not quite so bad). The September cover (fingers Xed) should go up first of next week.

My statement referred to the previous post which predicted that the cover would be a split cover between an old shot of Webb's HS Record and his new AR. I repeat....
