He's threadworthy: how many Jr. holders go on to get national records in a few years time? One in a generation, maybe. I just hope it isn't another 25y before someone else breaks the record, but this could last awhile.

Hard to know on which of the Webb threads to post what comments. Maybe we should just have two permanent Webb threads, a "Happy Webb thread" for those who are excited about what he has done and looking forward to what he has yet to accomplish, and a "Curmudgeon Webb thread" for those who have to piss on others' excitement.
Webb has been on the radar, as someone pointed out, since 1999 when he broke the HS sophomore class mile record. Now he is one of the half-dozen best 1500/miler runners in the world (let's not argue about whether he's 1st or 3rd or 5th, he's in there.) How many other athletes have we been able to follow from age 16 to world-class status at 24, with (hopefully) six or more years left to go? He's still young, he's confident and outgoing, he interviews well (in my opinion), even if there's sometimes a bit of a goofy edge to his interviews.
As far as his times, his mile converts to about 3:30.11, which only puts him =82nd alltime on the 1500 performance list. But compared to his recent peers? From 2000 to now, there have been 40 1500/mile performances better than his mile AR. El G accounted for 21 of those, Lagat for 7. Exclude those two and there have only been 12 faster performances in 6+ years:
El G......21
Lagat.....7
Komen...3
Ngeny....2
Ramzi....2
Baala.....1
Chichir...1
Saidi-Sief...1
Silva......1
Kiptanui..1
And Webb said, slyly and with confidence, in one of the post-race interviews, "I think I can go faster."
