Even if he HAS been left out because of "bombing in major championships", how does that explain Mark Lewis Francis' inclusion ?!

Dave Collins tried his best not to include MLF - the new selection criteria seem to have been written specifically with this aim in mind - but Williamson opted for the WUG (huh? wtf?) and Tyrone Edgar blew his chances in both Manchester and London (both times looked great in the heats then flunked the final), leaving no other candidates.

Well why not just pick Devonish and Pickering and leave it at that then? He didn't have to pick a third athlete.

mark has run the A QT on numerous occasions and came third at the trial. once simeon decided on WSG mark had to go.

i agree about emecka being a really nice guy and a servant to the sport but i'm not even sure he has a valid A standard and maybe just scraped the B. i would love him to get selected but the whole criteria now is people able to make final, who have A standard more than once, or developing athletes. Emeka is neither. As for Nick neiland don't make me laugh. at the beginning of the year he was saying he couls win a medal !!!! noe he's complaining he doesn;t know what he has to do for selection. It's quite easy, throw further

Nevet: That would have been too obviously spiteful. Plus (to be fair) MLF does seem to have sharpened up his act a lot this year - I would be absolutely delighted if he were to do well in Osaka.

Mump Boy - I know the new criteria and I realise Emeke isn't going to make the final. I dislike the criteria.

True. I do MLF a misjustice as he has been running a lot better than I have given him credit for but I would expect him to be closer to Pickering and Devonish.

I'm a nice guy, too - now where do I sign up for my free all-inclusive two-week trip to Japan?

Chuck the discus over 63m and I'd vote for you!

i didn't realise that emeka threw 63 at the weekend, in which case he should definitely be going.

i'm kind of with you in disliking the criteria and i think it punishes people like emeka unfairly. it was mmore aimed at the complacent number of UK athletes for who making the team was the aim rather than actually performing once at the champs.

He was UKA's athlete of the month for July.

He was 0.03 away from Pickering at Crystal Palace and 0.07 at the Trials.

And, contrary to what many think, it’s not like he flunks at every major championships. He ran 10.12 (SB) and 10.13 at the Olympics before finishing fifth in the semis, missing a lane in the final by one place. He was also the top Briton at the European Champs last year, lest we forget – again running his best time of the year (10.16) in the final.

Sure, his attitude and post-race interviews are always a bit questionable, but he has run 10.1 every year since 2000 and more often than not performs well under pressure and in championship scenarios – give the guy a break! (not just directed at Nevets, btw).

The problem I have with him is that he seems to be setting his standards so low, for someone with so much talent. After CP, I just got the impression that after his race and in his interview that he was happy with his 5th place and would be content with making the team.

His attitude is wrong as well. After the final, he was milking applause and stealing the limelight, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree with Jon re MLF. He has run 10.1 for years....and at the end of the day - he *is* an Olympic gold medallist (holding off Mo), no matter what anybody says.

I don't personally know any of these athletes - and I have no doubt that Emeka is a nice fellow - but posters here sometimes seem to base their own selection criteria on what 'a lovely guy or gal so-and-so is'.....none of us are keen on the selection criteria but no matter what way you look at it, if GB is to send podium/finalists/developing athletes, EU does not fit the bill. Why send someone to Japan when the strong likelihood (based on precedent) is that he will finish 16th or 17th in qualifying with 56 or 57m?

LOL! That would be truly hilarious if it wasn't such a shame...

Throwing over 63m 3 weeks ahead of the championships SURELY warrants selection? He's in his best form he has been for years, probably since his junior days...if you ask me, he should be on the plane

                              Oh well

And just for the record, I couldn't care less about whether an athlete is a "nice fellow" or not- they should go on merit. Which is why I think Jenny Meadows should be in the team as well over Rebecca Lyne, who actually is one of my favourite UK athletes at the moment

                                But I repeat, OH WELL...
