Sounds to me like they 1.) possibly learned from past year's experiences that racing through even minor aches can create big problems, or 2.) there really isn't a problem and they just teel that it is smarter to lay low, rest and keep the confidence and competitive juices high for Japan....
I would guess it was the second. There is no need to race until the Championships....he's as ready as he can get!

Do you think they're a bunch of rubes who've never seen niggles before last year? It goes with the territory, most of them go away, a few of them don't.

No, I don't. But, last year they admitted that he ran through some things he shouldn't have. He was committed to compete in some meets and felt honoring the commitment was more important than listening to his body.
When pressure to run from promotors and sponsors is high athletes may try to ignore things they otherwise wouldn't.
Personally I don't think that is the case this year. I think he just feels he has much more to lose than to gain by racing prior to Osaka. A little msucle tightness ()in this case diagnosed as a "strain") from a 1:43 big PR is expected and makes for a reasonable out.

Voldemort wants to get rid of all niggles!
Somewhere, someone is going to call you a racist for using the N-word.
