Just curious, why is it that men's and women's 100 and 200 have four rounds but the 110h/100h only have 3? I would think that it being a shorter event, it would have the same amount of rounds.

Surely it depends on how many athletes have actually got the qualifying times etc...there may be no need for 4 rounds in the hurdles

          X-Man really missed a chance to try the 100 / 400 double.

Remember that each country is entitled to enter one athlete in the meet, regardless of whether he/she has met a standard, if that is the country's only athlete. Historically, a disproportionate number of those single entries have been in the sprints rather than the hurdles or any other event. The schedule presumably takes that into account in allowing for four rounds to accommodate the larger number of entries in those events.

Hurdles went to four rounds in '95, '97, '99, but entries didn't justify it, so they cut back. In '99, for example, men's 110s had 41 entries, so they ran 6 heats (none w/ all the lanes full) and qualified 4+8 to get to the second round. Pretty much a waste of time to eliminate 9 guys who probably didn't break 13.8.

Guess Lagat will decide after London's 1500 whether he will double. Bet Webb is hoping he does.

If Lagat doesn't double, it'll be the 5K that he drops.

do you know this, or is it your opinion? why would webb care if lagat doubles?the 1500 is on days 1,3 and 5 then the heats for the 5k start after webb will face a fresh lagat, webb is having a better season than lagat and as competitors i think both webb and lagat want to compete against the best.

Catching up on Headlines that got posted in my absence over the weekend, I see that Lagat is indeed doubling. I mention this just in case it didn't get brought up in any other threads.

lagat has the 1500 before the 5k, so it's the 5k which could be problematic as the 5k heat is the day after the 1500 finals...

and webb worrying about lagat, i think it's the other way around, as webb ahs owned him this year...

they agreed to make the race fast at indy, one wonders if they agree to make osaka fast too...??
