  • Stockholm w 100

Richards will doing the rare 100/400 double. With her PR being 3-years-old, what are the chances that she'll surprise us the way Usain Bolt did a couple of weeks ago? Also, if Allison Felix is getting 4x400 consideration along with 4x100 consideration, what would it take for Richards to get 4x100 consideration at this point in the season?

I'm not up to speed on who's being considered for what. But it would be very surprising if Felix is not being condered for the 4 x 1.

I interpret 'her' (in the 4x100) to mean Richards, not Felix. It is a tougher standard to make the 4x100 because there are a number of not-so-well-known but pretty good American 100 runners; have these runners been doing the camps/practices/trial meets and has SR?.

Richards would likely have to run at least 11.02 to get consideration.

          Another victory for muddled syntax.

The correction has been made. Sorry for the ambiguity of the original post, but I did mean Richards.

I don't think she has any 4x100 aspirations. Running the 100 would be a good way for her to practice speed in preparation for the 200. My guess that is why she is choosing it.

That's what Richards has indicated. I also think she wants to lower her 11.28PR as mentioned in the IAAF article. I agree that she'd need to be in the 11.0s so challenge for a 4x100m spot and if she's been available to practice.

I think that she has the disadvantage that she does not have many 4x100s on her CV (I could be wrong), and that would hurt her suitability.

I forget the thread, somewhere a few months ago there was some discussion of Sanya's aspirations to run both relays in Beijing?

The big difference between being considered for the 4x1 as compared to the 4x4 as the coaches will certainly be willing to "take a chance" on a fast 400 runner, but before you get onto the 4x1, you also have to have displayed some (recent) skill with the stick and probably have participated in the 4x1 relay camps. I have no idea if Richards has done the latter. (Felix, remember, finished 4th in the USATF 100, so has been in the 4x1 queue since Indy)

The bigger question to me is: Is Richards ready for a double? Why would she do this, given her illness problems this year - perhaps to prepare her for rounds in Osaka?

I hope she's strong enough. I just read up on Behcet's Disease, and it sounds like about as much fun as a sharp stick in the eye.

Sanya's anchor leg contribution to the 42.28 at last year's Austin Relays has gotta count for something.

like most things, there are varying degrees of affliction

i'm sure her's is at the minor end, or she woudn't be competing at all !

Like Bolt, Sanya can run 100m!
